  8.    various software that was not available at printing time.

  11.    Playing Microsoft Windows Sound System (MWSS) RMI Format Music Files
  12.    ====================================================================
  13.  
  14.    Our Audio drivers support playback of MWSS RMI MIDI files.  However; 
  15.    you are required to change the default setting from <FM Synth (Base)> 
  16.    to <FM Synth (Ext)> in the MIDI-Mapper configuration table prior to 
  17.    the playing of these MIDI files.

  20.    Updates in the WINDAT Software
  21.    ==============================
  22.  
  23.    Windat has been updated to include three additional functions:
  24.  
  25.      "WAV -> VOC" (found under the Transforms menu)
  26.      ----------------------------------------------

  28.      The "WAV -> VOC" function allows you to convert your WAV-format audio 
  29.      files to the VOC-format.
  30.      
  31.      "Change Speed" (found also under the Transform menu)
  32.      ----------------------------------------------------

  34.      The "Change Speed" function allows you to change the sampling rate of 
  35.      your audio files.
  36.  
  37.      "File Info..." (found under the Windows menu)
  38.      ---------------------------------------------

  40.      The "File Info..." function displays the audio attributes of the
  41.      sound file currently opened in Windat.

  44.    Using Digital (.WAV) Audio with DOS 6.x's DoubleSpace*
  45.    ======================================================
  46.  
  47.    The DoubleSpace utility included with DOS 6.x can cause problems
  48.    if you attempt to play or record "high data rate" (i.e.: stereo/
  49.    44.1kHz/16-bit) digital audio to or from a compressed disk. In
  50.    WinDAT application, the symptom will be a "Disk Could Not Keep Up
  51.    With Digital Audio" error message, or in some cases the program
  52.    may even crash. 
  53.  
  54.    Therefore, if you anticipate that you will be playing or recording
  55.    a lot of stereo/44.1kHz/16-bit digital audio, you should set up a
  56.    non-compressed drive partition and configure the application WinDAT
  57.    to use this drive as its Work and Temp directories. In the program
  58.    this is done from the Setup window. 
  59.  
  60.    For information on setting up a non-compressed partition for your
  61.    hard drive, refer to your DOS 6.x Users Guide. 
  62.  
  63.    *The same procedure should be followed if you are using Stacker, a
  64.    third-party disk compression utility.

  67.    Notes About Using EMM386.EXE
  68.    ============================
  69.  
  70.    When running applications with EMM386.EXE installed, the following
  71.    error message may appear:
  72.  
  73.       "EMM386 DMA buffer is too small"
  74.  
  75.    You can overcome this problem in two ways:
  76.  
  77.       - remove the EMM386.EXE entry from the CONFIG.SYS file
  78.  
  79.       OR
  80.  
  81.       - add the following parameter to the EMM386.EXE entry in the
  82.         CONFIG.SYS file:
  83.  
  84.            D=64
  85.  
  86.            where D specifies how many kilobytes of memory should be
  87.            reserved for buffered Direct Memory Access (DMA).
  88.  
  89.         An example of this may be:

  91.            C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE D=64
